We often hear people talking about infographics, but what is exactly an infographic? Let’s find out!
Infographic is the translation of data, graphs and, more generally, complex concepts in a simple style of visual communication, which results more engaging and intuitive than a written text.
An infographic’s main function is to communicate its contents and numerical values in an effective and immediate way, as to make them easy to comprehend and memorize.
It is an evolution from a simple extrapolation and elaboration of graphic data, which are usually contained in Excel charts or long and boring PowerPoint presentations.
To be able to maintain the audience’s attention to the max and make the fruition of contents more agile and captivating, often an animated graphic is preferred over a static one, usually through the use of the audiovisual language or HTML5.
Infographic, be it static or animated, allows the creation of a coherent narrative composed of words, numbers and graphic elements.
Together with the selection of a modern and effective graphic line, it is important to underline that before deciding to create an infographic it is necessary to have the content of the communication well clear and, most of all, make sure to possess all the information needed.
An infographic without numbers and concepts to be transmitted is an exercise of style with no other purpose.
Often an instrument it’s used because it’s in style, it’s well popular or simply because it’s liked, but it must not be forgotten that aside from the aesthetic side, the efficiency of communication is the starting point of every evaluation.
The net contains a lot of instruments which permit the construction of an infographic in complete autonomy, but to create a quality product a single image is simply not enough.
Realising an infographic, even the easiest one, is the final result of a process which comprehends, among other things: the definition of a strategic target, the individuation of such target, the selection of a tone of voice and the construction of a shared and understood visual itinerary. To do all of this, it is necessary to possess specific expertise.
